Alyssa Gutierrez was home alone when three teens broke into her home by using a crowbar. The 11 year old initially thought her cousin was playing a prank on her, so she turned up the volume on the television.

Alyssa then caught a glimpse of them and say that one of them had a gun. So, the New Mexico pre-teen ran and grabbed her mom’s pink rifle. She had just learned how to use it a couple days earlier. “I was planning if they came right next to me, I would shoot them,” she said.

The thugs ended up running from the house but were apprehended by an off duty police officer who saw them. Alyssa’s parents knew one of the burglars. They believe the robbery was an attempt to steal firearms.

This is a good example why it’s important to be knowledgable about firearms. Alyssa was able to protect herself in a dangerous situation. But, calling 911 for additional help is also imperative!
