Duck Dynasty patriarch Phil Robertson is a proponent of common sense and he’s no stranger to controversy. It makes perfect sense that he’s recently teamed up with the conservative research organization Citizens United in support of North Carolina’s “bathroom law.”
The law that has liberals in an uproar says that females and males must use the bathroom that coincides with the gender that appears on their birth certificates. Since its passage in March, North Carolina has become a national battleground on the issue of transgender rights.
Phil sent out an email in conjunction with Citizens United that explained his reasoning. Here’s an excerpt from it:
“Men should use the men’s bathroom and women should use the women’s bathroom,” Robertson says in the email. “Just because a man may ‘feel’ like a woman doesn’t mean he should be able to share a bathroom with my daughter, or yours. That used to be called common sense. Now it’s called bigoted.”
Of course, liberal entertainers don’t feel the same way. In fact, many are cancelling concerts in the state — Bruce Springsteen and Ringo Starr have both pulled out. Rob Reiner also chimed in saying the laws are full of “hate, bigotry and discrimination” and he won’t film there.
I don’t think lawmakers in North Carolina or other states with similar laws are holding their breath!
Robertson also points out in his email what many conservatives have been feeling for a long time:
“The Judeo-Christian values that led America to greatness are under full assault by the mob mentality of political correctness, and we’re slowly losing our soul.”
