Two officers have been shot near Fort Smith, Arkansas by a suspect carrying a semi-automatic weapon.

One of the officer’s shot is a Sebastian County deputy and the other is the Hackett chief of police. They were shot around 7:15 a.m. It is unclear what their condition is at this point. EMTs did leave the scene earlier.

**UPDATE** The Sebastian County Deputy is in critical condition

In fact both officers are currently in surgery.

Officers from the Sebastian County Sheriff’s Office, Fort Smith Police, Greenwood Police, and Arkansas State Police are currently responding to the violent attack.

The attack took place in the 4700 block of Arkansas 253 between Greenwood and Midland. This is a very rural area on the Arkansas-Oklahoma border. Hackett’s total population is just 812.

SWAT has been deployed to deal with the gunman. As well as a mobile command unit.

There are also reports that two helicopters have joined the manhunt.

The shooter is still on the loose and has plenty of places to hide.

**UPDATE** The shooter has been identified as Billy Jones and he is holed up in a house surrounded by police.
