A very dangerous lightning storm swept through central Norway killing more than 300 reindeer.

The Norwegian Environment Agency reports that 323 reindeer were killed including 70 calves along the Hardangervidda mountain plateau.

Take a look at the devastation.

The following video may be too graphic for some audiences.

Norwegian Environment Agency spokesman Kjartan Knutsen reported reindeer and other wildlife are killed by lightning strikes “but we have not heard about such numbers before.”

He went on that this mass death may have been caused by their natural reaction to stay very tight in bad weather.

Reindeer herds typically migrate across the Hardangervidda plateau during season changes.
