The lockdown has been lifted after authorities discovered the suspected rifle was actually a ceremonial imitation used by the drill team.

Original story continues:

Two California schools in Simi Valley are on lockdown after police received reports of a person with a rifle at Royal High School.

Royal High School and Saint Rose of Lima Catholic School went into lockdown following the report at 8:21 am PT.

CBS Los Angeles spoke with Deputy Chief Joseph May who provided more details:

Simi Valley police reported that all students at Royal High were accounted for and safe. However, they were still searching for the possible gunman.

The Los Angeles Police Department joined Simi Valley in the search with air units.

Police seem to have narrowed their search as they closed all traffic on Royal Avenue at Crocker and Pride streets.

The schools are still on lockdown as the search continues.

This is a developing story. Stay with us for updates.
