6. The Word "Nazi" Was First Used as an Insult

The original abbreviation for the National Socialist Party in Germany was Nasos.

The term “Nazi” was coined by journalist Konrad Heiden as an insult. The word is similar to an Austro-Bavarian word meaning “simpleton” or “simple minded.”

Heiden was a member of the Marxist Social Democratic Party of Germany that was negatively referred to as “sozi.”
