Authorities have made an arrest following the toppling of a Confederate statue in Durham, North Carolina on Monday.
22-year-old Takiyah Thompson was arrested after she identified herself as the person who climbed a ladder to tie a rope around the statue.
Thompson claims breaking the law was justifiable because the statue represents white supremacy. But, you can’t just go breaking the law because you don’t like things. We have a rule of law for a reason.
She was charged with disorderly conduct by injury to a statue, damage to real property, participation in a riot with property damage in excess of $1,500, and inciting others to riot where there is property damage in excess of $1,500.
Sheriff Mike Andrews will not be giving out passes to these protestors who destroyed public property. “No one is getting away with this. We can all agree yesterday went too far,” he said.

We can’t have mob rule in this country. Destroying property is a crime – period. We have laws that still need to be obeyed.
